Dawn's platform

goals & plans for a bright future

1

create a livable, inclusive home for all

  • Align development with the Island's natural character and climate goals, which means limiting upzoning in Winslow and listening to our community needs and desires for affordability.

  • Diversify and strengthen a transportation system that includes bike shoulders, island-wide trail map, increasing the frequency and availability of public transportation, improving roads as necessary and continuing to expand the ways Islanders get from place to place.

  • Better utilize our existing home inventory and current zoning, and previous Comp Plan, to work toward creative housing solutions.

  • Strong advocate mixed income housing. (our current Planning Commission has never advocated or discussed this in a public forum)

  • Work to create and sustain housing and livability that is inclusive of all ages and wages, with emphasis on middle income folks as well a low income folks.

  • Create economic conditions that keep people on the Island, by limiting rate hikes and taxes. Work with local businesses to help them secure workers and not add undue burden with additional levels of oversight.

  • Advocate for Park Zoning to streamline and expedite permitting for Island residents.

  • Promote affordability without burdening residents with higher taxes and rate hikes.

  • Work to streamline permit process to assist homeowners and encourage ADU opportunities.

2

Build Stronger Connections—Across agencies, places and individuals

  • Develop an Island wide bike and trail map, including Park & City trails, easements, waterfront access and more. We are more connected than we know - and its going to take multi-agency coordination to bring this valuable resource to life!

  • Improve communication and collaboration between City, Parks, Schools, Fire Department, and local nonprofits to reduce redundancy.

  • Propose quarterly inter-agency planning sessions to align goals and share resources.

  • Address tourism (pro and con) as a real component of interagency communication, revenue source, management and more.

  • Support HRB in their efforts to create affordable housing in a diverse and timely manner. Support Helpline House in its efforts to meet the daily needs of Island residents. And continue to work in concert with other agencies to make life livable for our neighbors.

  • Review City spending to identify cost-saving opportunities, with specific attention to where agencies are duplicating work.

3

Lead with Compassion, TransparenCY and Community Voice

  • Increase public participation and engagement.

  • Continue to ensure policies reflect equity, access, and inclusion for all residents and businesses.

  • Work in concert with local business owners to maximize their expertise and minimize government overreach.

  • Strengthen preparedness efforts in partnership with Bainbridge Prepares, Fire Department and Parks.

  • Launch a series of community listening sessions across the Island.

  • Develop conservation action items, education and incentivize participation in water conservation, invasive species removal, climate resilient planting, climate adaptive landscaping and more.

  • Advocate for residents and business rights.

  • Meet deadlines for Comprehensive Plans. Finalize the Groundwater Management Plan. Being sure to have plenty of community input and be open to creativity and thinking outside the box to solve the challenges we face fiscally, environmentally, community-wise.
