DAWN JANOW

FOR BAINBRIDGE ISLAND CITY COUNCIL

a bright future

An Island resident for over 20 years, Dawn is prepared to bring her decades of elected and volunteer leadership service in the arts, schools, sports, and most recently as a Bainbridge Parks Commissioner, to the City Council. She brings over thirty years of environmental stewardship from her work with Alpine Ascents International and currently with Parks.

Dawn’s breadth of experience uniquely equips her to unite multiple agencies and points of view to resolve issues, implement forward-thinking solutions, and navigate challenges with empathy, integrity, and skill.

Dawn is committed to a collaborative, creative, common-sense approach to City government and will work to create a vibrant community for today and tomorrow.

Why City Council?

I’m running for City Council to bring efficiency, common sense, renewed energy, and my skills fostering partnerships and collaboration between public agencies to Bainbridge.

Our public and private agencies can and should do a better job of communicating and collaborating for the betterment of our community as a whole. We are stronger when we work together. Improving relationships between our public, private, and non-profit agencies will help eliminate redundancies and result in more efficient use of taxpayer dollars and a clearer direction for our Island as a whole.

Let's build a bright future. Together.

MEET DAWN

During her six-year tenure as Park Commissioner (2019-2025), Dawn Janow:

  • Spearheaded the Bainbridge Troll project, serving as project manager and bringing international recycle artist Thomas Dambo’s work to Sakai Park and five other PNW sites

  • Acquired the Bainbridge Island Recreation Center (BIRC) without costing taxpayers additional money. Membership fees cover the purchase.

  • Helped expand Bainbridge’s park system to nearly 1,600 acres and 50 miles of trails and open space, including the dog park at Strawberry Hill

  • Upgraded the Kids Up! playground at Battle Point Park to improve accessibility and safety, refurbishing public art and adding gardens

  • Launched the Bainbridge Island Natural Resources Department to embed environmental stewardship into all future planning

  • Served on the “No Child Left Inside” advisory committee for the Washington State Recreation Office, helping fund outdoor education for underserved youth across Washington

Dawn introduces Pia the Peacekeeper, the first installation of the Way of the Bird King by artist Thomas Dambo in the PNW.
Dawn Janow resurfaces the Bainbridge Island roller rink.

Before serving as Park Commissioner, Dawn made an impact volunteering in local sports:

  • Upgraded the roller rink surface and drinking fountains during her time at the Bainbridge Roller Hockey League

  • Led fundraising efforts to upgrade fields, drainage, and more at the Rotary baseball field for the Little League

"With Dawn at the helm, we turned the ageing asphalt rink at Battle Point Park into a state-of-the-art facility. It was a heavy lift that required fundraising, research, long-range planning, hard decision-making, collaborating with COBI and the Parks Department, and many volunteer hours of hands-on labor." - Bruce Barcott
